On the Road Again, Part II

After settling near Boston for the night we headed to Alewife Station so that we could take the T into Boston. My son loves riding on the T. He really wanted to tour Harvard so that was the first place we went.

As we stepped off the T the humidity hit you first followed by the intense heat. It was 97 degrees and so humid that it was difficult to breathe. I had a feeling that this was not going to go well.

Harvard Square

We started in Old Harvard Square. It was lovely. I found a history of the college and read it as we sat in chairs under a big old shade tree. Sitting there we could imagine the soldiers walking through the yard.

Harvard Square II

My son had his picture taken with the statue. He refused to rub the shoe for good luck after he heard some people pee on it for good luck.

Harvard StatueWe headed to The Coop across the street because even just sitting in Harvard Square was too much on this hot, hot day. We figure he has the hat and the shirt now he is accepted, right? Anyone want to fund an education for a sweet, smart boy?  🙂

After we decided we are in Boston so we must have seafood. We had planned on heading downtown but it was just too hot. We settled for Legal Seafood which was about half a mile away. That would have been fine except we got lost and the heat was sapping our strength and ability to cope with little irritations.  But, we made it.

Legal Seafood - Lobster Bisque

I started my meal with the Lobster Bisque. It had lovely chunks of lobster on top. It had a delicious, smooth taste.

Legal Seafood - Clam Chowder

The rest of my family chose the Clam Chowder. This is one of Legal Seafood’s signature items.  Nice chunks of potatoes, and clams in a creamy base you know why it is one of their signature dishes.

Legal Seafood - Lobster Bake

My son asked if he could have the Lobster Bake. Of course, we are on vacation! (Normally it would be a big No.) The platter had mussels, clams, the lobster, chorizo, an ear of corn, broccoli and a baked potato. My son dug in with gusto but even he could not finish it all. He thought the funniest part was that of the entire dish (and he loves his seafood) he liked the chorizo best.

Legal Seafood - Grilled Scallops

I love scallops. If I have a chance to choose seafood I would choose grilled scallops. These were plentiful, large and meaty. They had nice grill marks and a taste perfect. The mashed potatoes were good without being overly starchy. I ate a few of the onion straws. None of the side choices really were anything I wanted so I just chose these to try. They were good but it was not something I could eat very much of.

Legal Seafood - Scallops with Seaweed Salad

My partner chose the scallops with seaweed salad and jasmine rice. Next time I am choosing the seafood salad. It had a nice light Asian flavor and a sprinkling of sesame seeds. It kept the entire plate feeling fresh and healthy. This will be a definite do over.

Our waiter was great keeping our water and drink orders refreshed. On this very hot day we were drinking lots of water so he was very attentive.

Legal Seafood will be on our return trip for next year.

  5. I also live near Boston! This heat has been insane, but it finally broke today with a nice drizzly afternoon in the 70s. We had been due! Love seeing all of your seafood pics. A good reminder of all that we have here in Beantown.
