Sunday is the day I talk about my family. Who we are and why we chose to do the things we do.
Yes, those are some decorations from our town last fall. Autumn is coming far too quickly for me. I see many posts about children going back to school and it makes me sad. We still have about four weeks left before back to school starts here but I am trying to get all the fun in we can while we are still on summer vacation.
I am one of those moms who LOVE having my children home for the summer. I wish my son would be home schooled but I know it is best for him to be in school. He hates missing school and all that is going on there. So, I have to accept that school is best for him while virtual school is best for my daughter.
Don’t get me wrong fall is my favorite time of year. To me Labor Day is my New Year’s Day. It is the start of our new year. The day we make our plans for the upcoming year and set out our intentions to make ourselves better in the coming year. More organized. On time. Proactive. Are the words I hear in our house.
I love school supply sales, hoodies and crunchy leaves as you step on them. The cooler nights that are great for sleeping and the children love planning their Halloween costumes.
In the meantime I will be cramming beach days, cook outs and more adventures into the next few weeks to enjoy these last few days of summer. Are your children in school and how do you plan to extend the summer season?
I am with you all the way — love having my guys home in the summer, wish the new school year wouldn’t start so soon every year, but then excited for all the possibilities a new beginning brings. We’ve got 2 more weeks. For me, these are the hardest. So much anticipation and angst!! Thanks for writing!

I love summer but fall is always welcome at my house. I’m with you. Except we don’t have crunchy leaves in AZ. We have nights that are perfect to be outside. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

I completely agree! I have friends who say that they can’t wait for school to start so their kids will be back in school. I actually like my kids! LOL I love having them at home! I’m a teacher, so I get to enjoy the summer with them. BTW, I start work on Tuesday and school here starts on Friday! I am so bummed!

Is a state law that prohibits public schools from opening before Labor Day because tourism is so popular in our state. I am thinking that it will probably change in the next few years but I like it.

School starts August 29th here in Hickory, NC. I have one going into 5th grade and one into 3rd. My 2 year old won’t start school until next September .I am actually ahead of the game this year. School supplies, clothes and shoes are all bought. We’re going to hang out for the remainder of the vacation. Might take a trip to the mountains and hike, but other than that, keeping it close to home :).

I went supply and clothes shopping last week. I love school supplies for myself. I always have a notebook of lists going. My kids loved 5th grade so much. Hope your kids have a great year and a happy end to summer!

Awww…thank you. B, my daughter, is a bit nervous about going into 5th grade. I went supply shopping as soon as I got the list and I do the same thing. I got crayons, pens, pencils, notebooks, loose paper….lol. My daughter was looking at me like I was crazy when I added extra stuff in the cart.

My son started fifth grade last Monday. He goes to school on a year round schedule. I like that he gets out in October for vacation. It’s a great time to plan vacations. Disney world wasn’t as crowded and it was a little bit less expensive.

I like vacationing in October but I couldn’t handle the year round school. My kids would go crazy! I love Disney in October and February.

It’s something you just get used to. I went to school year round too. I’ve never been to Disneyland or World in February.

Best time! Cool weather and low crowds. Only downside is usually one major ride is down for refurbishment.
