Holiday Movie Preview

What? Yes, this is a huge departure from my normal blog post but my family went to our local movie theater last night to see what is my favorite part of the movies – Previews! The theater hosts a free event and they show approximately 40 full length trailers, give out snacks, posters and allow you to buy the popcorn buckets for the winter a day early. The movies are slated for release from the end of October through the end of December.

By the way, yes, we ate buttered popcorn, S’mores bites, Minon gummies and cotton candy for dinner last night and it was glorious!!!!

Here are what our thoughts were on a few of the movies and a few trailers (these are not the ones we saw but thought you may like them):

Inferno: Tom Hanks back again as Robert Langdon from the Davinci Code (2006) and Angels and Demons (2009).  Looks exciting and action packed. My kids had no idea what this was as they are too young to remember the books and movies but we were interested in it.

Doctor Strange: Part of the Marvel Universe with Benedict Cummberbatch. Need I say more?

Hacksaw Ridge: This would normally not be a movie I would go to based on the title. We all thought it was going to be a horror movie or something. We were really wrong. It is based on a true story about a young man who enlists and will not fire a gun as it is against his religion.

Almost Christmas: This whole trailer made us laugh out loud! We all want to see this movie as a fun, family night out during the holiday season!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: We are Harry Potter fans through and through. We will most likely go see this movie but it was kind of mixed for us. We are finishing reading “The Cursed Child” right at this moment and wish they had made that movie rather than this one.

Loving: This one looks heart wrenching but all four of us said we wanted to see it. Based on a true story of an inter-racial couple married in Washington DC and arrested in Virginia where their marriage was not recognized. The case gets taken to the US Supreme Court.

Moana: We are a DISNEY family! We will most likely go see this movie but we are not sure if it was the trailer content but we were all kind of ambiguous about whether we really wanted to see it or not.

Rogue One: My son was all over this movie. He wasn’t sure at first but after today he asked if we were going opening night!

The Space Between Us: A boy born on Mars seeking friendship with a girl on Earth. We all thought this looks sweet.

Collateral Beauty:  Will Smith writes letters to Death, Love, and Time. This looks so good!

Fences:  This looks really emotional and raw. I love Denzel Washington and Viola Davis too.

So, what movies are you looking forward to this fall?

A very famous conscientious objector, Duval Doss, served as a combat medic with the Army in the Okinawa campaign. For his conspicuous gallantry in combat, he received the Medal of Honor. Doss was a Seventh-Day Adventist and came from Lynchburg, Virginia. I don’t know if Hacksaw Ridge is about him.

It could have been. I don’t Rembert if they said his name in the preview or not.

Correction: I got the first name wrong. It was Desmond, not Duval. And yes, Hacksaw Ridge is based on his war experience, Of course, Hollywood, can be expected to take liberties with the story.

Of course. That is probably why they say “inspired” by a true story sometimes.

Yes. The movie looks gut wrenchingly sad and heart warming at the same time.

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t even know movie theaters did that! I’d be all over it! We are looking forward to Moana as a family. My husband showed me the trailer to Collateral Beauty and I thought it looked really good! I haven’t heard of Hacksaw Ridge but I love movies like that. We are a movie loving family so I’m sure we’ll see most of the ones you listed in due time 🙂

I, for one, am definitely going to see Moana! It’s based on a Hawaiian legend of how the demi-God Maui does what he does, very cool stuff, well to me anyways. I’ve heard these tales my entire life, so to see it put into motion, fantastic!

I hope it is really good! Disney has already gotten in trouble for a Halloween costume based on the movie. Hoping they do justice to the story.

Oh, no doubt! I’ve seen both official trailers and from what I’ve seen, it seems pretty true to legend for me. I’ll be there with me Hawaiian food, HA!
