Taking a Short Break from Social Media

social-media-images

I am tired. I have challenged my little family to stay off Facebook and news media for the next few days. I am writing this on Friday to post Saturday morning. I have been staying positive but each time I put something out about being good, kind and decent to each other I have been pounced on by someone who wants to challenge me. My reaction is to influence the real people around me that are my real friends and family.

We will be spending this weekend going to the Christmas parade, drinking hot cocoa, talking walks on the shore, and spending time together as a family. How will this change the rest of the world? It may not but I am still going to greet people as they go by us. Talk to strangers at the parade. Not about politics or life, but rather, isn’t this a nice day?  If we have extra hot cocoa, I will offer them some. I will continue to be kind. I will continue to acknowledge the people around me. No, I am not being Pollyanna-ish. I will point out injustice if I see or hear it but I am not going to go looking for it. I am going to put out goodness, kindness, and decency into this world and maybe it will just change my little corner for now but hopefully the ripple will spread.

So, I hope you will continue to support me by liking or commenting on this post or one of my other posts. I will be back to talk to you all soon but for now I need to take care of myself and my family.

You have a fantastic idea. With all the negativity that has been created from the election we all could use some positive time with family and community.
Have a WONDERFUL weekend with the family ☺

  3. I don’t participate in any social media, decided a few years ago not to. So many lies have been sold as truth in this election. People seem to believe what they read online and they are too busy to do research themselves.

We all need a break now and then. I took a blogging break for a month this year and it felt good. There is “real” life around us and it needs us more than our online world. I think you made a smart choice. Be there for your family and enjoy your weekend.

The vitriol I’ve been seeing on “anti-social” media is unprecedented! I’ve already encouraged people there to stop acting like children and make their own corners of the world great again. I see you have the same idea… bravo!

  15. Christmas parade before Thanksgiving!!! That’s just wrong!!! I really don’t like seeing all the Christmas stuff coming out in Oct. It seems to come out earlier every year! Now the parade in your town too! Say it ain’t so!!!

Hope you’re having a great break from Social Media, and cooking amazing food. Hope to see you blogging soon!

btw- I’m behind and not getting up to speed very fast in the blog-o-sphere.

Lol! I think they do it before Thanksgiving because it may be under 2-4 feet of snow and below 0 otherwise. It was a gorgeous weekend here almost 50 so we couldn’t have asked for better weather for it! I will be blogging again after taking a break this weekend but I have decided to leave FB and news apps off my phone for awhile. Healthier for my soul.

      1. Wow! I don’t live where it snows so my perception is that you who do just take all that in stride and put on parades, football games, and everything snow or shine. I’ve seen football on T.V. being played in what I would call a blizzard, and the New Year’s Day parade in NYC seems like it’s always on New Year’s Day snow or shine.
Tells you how much I don’t know right. 🙂

I deleted my FB account a few years ago. I don’t miss it. WP, Flickr, and Instagram are all the Social Media I can handle. 🙂

We do take snow and cold in stride but we plan ahead and make things work when we need to. The St. Patrick’s Day parade goes on whether it is 50 degrees or 5 degrees. Just makes a difference of how much fun you have and how much the people watching are keeping warm by drinking.

          1. LOL! I bet those thermos’ are spiked with more than cocoa, and there’s more than enough flasks around. 🙂

  16. Hope you and your family had an awesome weekend! A break from social media is completely necessary at times. I decided not to look at Facebook for awhile after the election. So surprised and disappointed…but I remembered that through each disappointment in my life, I have become stronger. While I would love for my children to see wonderful role models in prominent positions, I know that it doesn’t always happen and I am the role model that they will look to most. You are an amazing role model to your children!! It will be okay…there are still many wonderful and caring people in our world. Hugs to you all!

I hear ya. I went through the same thing. In fact, I also had to keep off FB for a while, otherwise I would have lost a few friends.Lol those same people are still bantering and throwing a fit. Crazy.
Thank you for the great post. it is good to know that I am not alone.
