New Year Blues

As we edge closer to New Year’s Eve I get a bit of the blues. I tend to be weepy as I look at my children, my life and the state of the world around me. The passage of time has always hit me hard. I swear my babies are still 3 and 6. They can’t be 13 and 16 years-old. Ten years could not have passed by already. I swear it was just yesterday I could pick up my 6 foot baby boy and carry him up the stairs.

I hear of my parent’s ailments and forget they are not the people who can still out run me in Disney World. My parents once said to us as we were leaving Magic Kingdom, “We will take the bus back later. We are going over to Hollywood Studios because Daddy wants to ride Rock’n’Roller Coaster again.” He sang “Dude Looks Like a Lady” for days. Now, he can barely walk. He needs help to get out of bed and barely leaves the house. Where did the time go?

I am not one for wanting to turn back the clock but I guess I need to respect the clock a bit more. Realize the passage of time happens in the blink of an eye and continue to appreciate what happens in the moment. Anticipation of things to come or pining for things that have happened distracts from the here and now.

So, I have chosen my word for the new year. I will finish this year of Joy and 2017 will be Purposefully. Purposefully – something done deliberate or on purpose. Describes the action or demeanor of a person who is determined or resolute. Perfect.

  1. We all get the New Years Blues, it seems the years are flying by us now. It has just been summer and now the year is almost over.

Exactly. If I had to say 365 days have gone by I would say it is impossible.

It’s crazy how time flies! I don’t know where the time goes! Wow! Kids grow up too fast! I can’t believe my son’s going to be 11 this week! It seems like I just brought him home from the hospital a few weeks ago…not almost 11 years ago! The holidays are kind of stressful for me too. I’m SO ready to see 2016 go! Here’s to hoping 2017 is better 🙂

  3. I know just how you feel. My oldest son is going to high school next year and it feels like he just started nursery school a short while ago. I am going to cry buckets when my baby finishes primary school in three years time.

This year unfortunately I have no blues… and I wish some other years can fly by. It was an unhappy year for me. I hope in 10 years to feel exactly what you are feeling now, that means you have lived a wonderful fulfilled life. Keep on going this way 😊

Yes, the older you get the faster the time flies, that’s for sure. I am positive, you are experiencing beautiful moments with your kids these days too. They are just a bit different than they used to be ten years ago. Its important to enjoy them and to live them fully, since ten years later they’ll be even more different, and you’ll miss what happening now.
Happy coming 2017! No blues, please.
Miss reading your posts, but I am slowly getting back to WordPress 🙂
