If you have ever lived near Wegman’s grocery store and then moved away you will probably understand this. We went back east for a family wedding thus weekend. In the four days we were in town we made 2 or 3 trips to Wegman’s.
One was to get prepared food such as subs, pizza and sushi. The second trip was to stock up on staples we cannot get in the Midwest such as Grandma Brown’s Baked Beans, salt potatoes, sponge candy, Speedie Sauce, and of course Zweigle’s hot dogs.
We made sure we stopped for Rochester Garbage Plates.
Fish Fry which is a huge thing in Western New York.
And no trip would be complete without the ice cream! This is salted caramels with candied bacon pieces in vanilla ice cream. It was really good!
So, they say you can never go home but you can sure stir up the memories with all your favorite foods!

Yes! Whether it is somewhere new or visiting a beloved place the food is what brings back the essence of the trip for us!

We are moving from Phoenix Arizona to Webster NY this week…….I love this post as I can’t wait to check out Wegmans. Did you live in the area for a long time? We are going to be totally new to the area and can’t wait to get there!! Any tips you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!

We lived in Rochester for 17 years and moved 5 years ago. Be ready for snow and cold weather (as you know) and make friends with it. Get the good boots, coat, and hat that you want to go outside in when it gets cold. Get a garbage plate and fish fry and throw yourself into the wonderful things to do in the area. I loved it and miss it.

I feel the same way about Publix. When we left Florida, I think I missed the grocery store more than the eternal sunshine.

As I write this , we are returning from Wegman’s. They came to Richmond last year. It is a very nice store. Prior to the coming of Wegman’s, we had a local store chain, Ukrop’s.They had a great line of prepared foods. They were run by devout Southern Baptists. As such, they did not sell alcohol and were closed on Sunday. They were universally respected in town because they stuck to these values.

They were wonderful stores. Service was the standard. They even had staff who would take your groceries to your car with NO tipping. A lot of these staff members were mentally handicapped people who just loved being helpful.

Wegmans is an official Tourist Attraction in Upstate New York. Love them.

I grocery shop at Wegmans a lot but I never heard of any of those items!

They are Western NY items. Salt potatoes are new potatoes that are boiled in HEAVILY salted water then dipped in butter. The Speadie Sauce is from Binghamton, NY and the Grandma Brown’s Beans are made in Mexico, NY.

My Boston relatives pick up certain items when they are Rochester too. I guess each one has things related to the area they are in.

We used to unrecorded near a Wegmans and moved aagency… I do read! Lol. It is mirthful how attached we generate to the agency we like things.
