The calendar says that fall starts on Friday, September 22nd. My heart says it starts on Tuesday. The kids start back to school on Tuesday. This is the day I dislike most every year, next to New Year’s Eve. My kids are ready to go back. They are ready to start all the new exciting things they are doing this year. I am the one not ready to let them go. I love having them around and having adventures with them.
Spontaneous beach days have already been cut back with my son starting his Latin class earlier than the rest of the schools here. Late night dinners and cookouts will be curtailed with classes, lessons, and rehearsals. We will sneak in some last-minute swims and sunsets but it just isn’t the same.
So, since this is the “real” start of the year we are making our family goals. We sat around the dinner table last night and talked about our goals for the upcoming year. For me the goals are get back to meal planning at least two weeks at a time if not monthly and keep on top of my calendar. Just recently I double booked meetings and I NEVER do that. That means my life is getting a bit out of control and I need to reign it in a bit. My daughter’s goals are to continue with her physical therapy exercises and remain injury free for the coming year. My son’s goals are to create and keep his daily schedule which is a big struggle for him.
So, we are looking forward to Tuesday with lots of joy for new adventures but also quite a bit of sadness that another summer has flown by. It is not the end of summer, but it really is.
It went by way too fast!

The end of summer break always holds a lot of melancholy since it also means more or less the end of summer. This year I am really struggling with letting summer go but as you did, we just need to make goals and have something to look forward to in order to face life with a positive attitude, excitement, and curiousity!

Thank you, Erika. I am pushing forward with a bit of sadness but more determination now that we have all set goals. It does help me.

That’s right, having a clear outlook makes the step easier and after that, it all settles anyway again.
