I actually began this blog in 2012 but didn’t really start writing until the following year. 2012 was a year of turmoil for us. We got married (again, legally this time), my partner lost her job in a company buy-out, she got a new job in Michigan, we moved 600 miles to a super small house, sold our family home of 17 years, bought a new house, and moved again. Needless, to say that didn’t leave much time for anything else other than keeping our family together as much as possible.
But, I have learned so much over the last 5 years and continue to learn more every day about blogging. I have learned it is about relationships. The relationships between bloggers and readers. Most of the people who read my blog are family, friends in real life, or bloggers. I love reading what others posts, commenting when something touches me, and following their stories and lives. It is all about the relationships I build and the connections I make. If I don’t read something from you in a while and you haven’t posted an “I Need a Break Post” I begin to wonder and worry a bit that you are okay. Really.
And, in the end I have learned I know nothing about blogging at all. I learn new things from each and every one I follow every day. I just learned that if I want to continue to grow I need to work on moving my blog. I am thinking about it. It is another growth moment for me and am I ready for it? We shall see!
Thank you to each and every one of you who has read my blog, commented, and become my friend. I thank you so very much!
Congratulations! We are twins of a sort since I s also began my blog in June 2012 and it has gone through a few overhauls as well. Also, congratulations on your personal changes.
I don’t know what you mean by “moving” your blog. If it’s what I just got finished doing, think long and hard about it. I’m still working on the getting the kinks and bugs out of mine!

Thank you! I probably am. I am WordPress.com now and cannot add plug-ins and other things to help move my blog to the next level. I am constrained by what they allow. I am thinking of moving my blog to WordPress.org with Bluehost. I have been agonizing over this decision for a year and am finally to the point I think I am going to do it.

I just moved mine over to InMotionHosting because of that reason. I also changed my domain name so it was a longer process than I had hoped. Good luck!

Me too! Since I was at my renewal period with WP, I did it all at the same time. Maybe I should have waited to change my domain name but that probably would have made the entire process cost more and I have been hemorrhaging money in the last five years so I saved a few bucks by doing it all at one time. But since I needed someone to help with some of the heavy lifting, I ended up spending that money anyway. 😀

I enjoy reading your recipes… they are simple and doable and not intimidating at all. The ingredients are things I can find in our pantry, or at the neighborhood supermarket. Do you have a You Tube channel ?

Thank you! Those are the goals I have set for myself – getting people to cook at home, experiment using things they have in their pantry or freezer, and sitting down together. I don’t have one yet. I have been toying with the idea. Maybe when I switch my blog I change everything up and add one!

Congrats on 5 years. Your blog is interesting and well written. Whatever you decide, please do not stop blogging. I have thought of moving my quilting blog (it’s not on WordPress .com) of eight years, but it does sound so like a long process. As a result, I may just leave that blog where it is and start an entirely new quilting blog on WP. Maybe announce the new blog on that existing blog. We’ll see…

Thank you! After all my research WordPress.com or WordPress.org seem to be the way to go. I started on .com and am probably going to move to .org just so that I can do more and try to move onto the next level. I hope whatever you decide it helps you get where you want to go!

What doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger and I’m sure those things you endured back in 2012 helped mould you to be who you are today. I encourage you to continue building and growing your blog. Who knows where it may end up bringing you. 🙂

Thanks for this post. As a new blogger myself I have been pleasantly surprised by the positive support of other bloggers on the WordPress platform. I too began writing for family and friends, and I have been so amazed when I see views and likes from all over the world.

It is wonderful watching the numbers go up but be careful not to get stuck on them. I have seen far too many people quit because of stats. It is about what we have to say. You tell a lovely story keep it up!

Happy anniversary!!!! I am the exact same way when I don’t see new posts from my favorite bloggers. I am also that way with my regulars at work.
