A few years ago these were all over Pinterest for Christmas cookies. I had never seen them before but everyone was talking about how their mom or they used to make these all the time. I didn’t try them. I am like that. When something is popular I tend to go the other way. Maybe somewhere down the road I will try it but I am not going to read a book, see a movie, or make a recipe because everyone else is.
But, as we were looking for cookies to make this one popped up again and I thought it was time to finally make them.
Verdict:
These were okay. They were not overly sweet and were good for ice cream sandwiches. I don’t think I would make them for a Christmas cookie but they were okay.
I preferred them in the ice cream sandwiches but they were pretty good if you don’t want an overly sweet cookie.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 4 oz unsweetened baking chocolate, melted, cooled
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Directions:
-
In bowl stir oil, chocolate, granulated sugar and vanilla. Mix in eggs, one at a time. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours.
-
Heat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheet with shortening or cooking spray.
-
Drop dough by teaspoonfuls into powdered sugar; roll around to coat and shape into balls. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
-
Bake 10 to 12 minutes until slightly firm to the touch. Immediately remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks.
Thanks for the honest review haha

I guess I am too honest? They were okay but far better with ice cream!

LOL! When something is popular and all over the place I’m not interested either! 🙂 I want what was popular 50 yrs ago, or what’s not been invented yet.
However, I’m craving chocolate and these would go down really well just now!

I think these would also work sandwiched with chocolate, Marci. It would create the same taste contrast as the ice-cream.
