So Where Have I Been Lately?

I admit life has gotten a bit too hectic for me lately. My son left for the UK on Sunday for ten days. I think getting him ready to go mentally, emotionally, and physically was much harder than I ever thought it would be. Many of you know he is autistic and is going on this trip with his high school orchestra. Last Wednesday we were ready to just not send him because he was having such a hard time with the end of the school year.  We tried talking to him every day but it was going no where.  Things seemed to turn a bit over the weekend so we decided to let him go. We told him we were not thinking of keeping him home as a punishment but just we didn’t know if he could handle himself for 10 days and he admitted to us he was worried about that too.

I wrote him little note cards and laminated them to remind him what to do each day. Simple things we don’t need reminders of he forgets. But, ask him about Star Wars, American history, or his political thoughts and he will talk for hours in great detail. As you can see from the above picture he is in Wales and having fun. He has missed his bus at least once but still made all his orchestra performances. He will be home soon.

Then my daughter’s Irish dance recital was also on Sunday. She was in 7 dances. She loves it so very much. The nice thing is that she is the only graduating senior this year and since she is going to school in the area her entire dance class is staying the same next year. She is excited to be able to do a few more things with the school next year and happy she is going to be in the area to dance.

And, my daughter graduated! It was a tough road for her through school but she made it!

Lastly, for the past 2 months I have been in physical therapy for my back and hip. I had gotten to a point where I could only stand for a minute or two at a time because the pain was so bad. When I finally saw how it was hampering my life and my family I decided to do something about it. Just a week or so in I lost feeling in my left hand. It felt like it was halfway between the dead feeling from when you fall asleep on it and when it is the prickly nerve pain. Then there were the flashes of nerve pain. I was not sleeping and my back didn’t feel so bad suddenly because the pain in my arm and neck were so bad. So, after figuring out they think it is Fibromyalgia that is making my arm hurt it has gotten a bit better but is still not complete. Writing and doing certain things without being able to still completely feel three of my fingers is interesting.

The back is getting better, slowly. I am up to 7 minutes standing but my hip is not getting better as quickly as they hoped. I need to get an MRI to see if there is actually a tear in it. I am hoping there is not that it is something simple because a tear will have to be fixed surgically.

Needless to say life has been hectic. Oh, and I was a chair for a 200+ person fundraiser this past weekend and planning two graduation parties (one out of town) for my daughter.  Never a dull moment in our lives!

Dinners lately have been super easy or non-existent. Yes, I have given my kids cereal for dinner. We all have to do it and it’s okay to say it and admit it. As long as they are getting fed. I will be back to posting this week but wanted you to know I am still here. Thanks for sticking with me.

Wow, life was definitely anything but boring for you lately. I hope you are doing better again. Back pain, most of all with a trapped nerve is horrible (been there too). I can so understand how hard it must have been to let your son go to England. But the experience he makes may hopefully also help him to deal again a bit better with his autism. You are a wonderful mom and you and your family must have prepared him best for that step in his life. Blessings!

WOW! A lot going on for you.
I’m sorry you are in pain. I live in constant, borderline debilitating pain that doctors have said is fibromyalgia. It’s not fun. My daughter, who is visiting this week has suffered with the same. She’s trying to get me to change my diet (In fact she wrote a guest post about it!).
I know it’s hard to let the kids do some things. I’m glad he’s doing well!
7 DANCES, mega wow! Congratulations to your daughter for graduating! Now she has a more to look forward to as she navigates the “adulthood” waters!

Thank you. The loss of feeling in my right hand is the worse part. I can deal with the nerve pain now that it is down to a constant 2-3 but not feeling my fingers makes doing detail things difficult at best.

Thank you. Yes, I am trying hard to get better but I am beginning to think it just may be surgery that will help.

Exciting news about your daughter, you must be very proud!
I’m so sorry you’ve been having such problems with pain. I have fibromyalgia also but yours sounds like it’s nerve related with the hands in such a way that makes me wonder whether there’s more to it. An MRI for your back sounds very sensible and I also hope it’s more straightforward and not requiring surgery. You’ve certainly been very busy lately – make sure to get time to rest! 🙂
