Ham and Cheese Stromboli

They had full boneless hams on sale recently for $.99 a lb! That is a super price here. So, I bought one and cut it into pieces before freezing so that we could use if for different dishes – baked ham, soups, casseroles, etc…. We took out one of the smaller pieces for dinner the other night and I was trying to decide what to make with it. I was thinking of making some kind of pizza with it at first but then thought let’s try a stromboli!

Verdict:

This was so good! Both kids said that they would definitely eat this again and both wanted the leftovers for lunch the next day. Yes! The honey mustard with the ham added a delicious flavor and the cheese over the top of the dough melted in nicely. So, delicious.

Serve this with a large green salad to complete the meal.

A hearty meal to feed a hungry family.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ball of pizza dough
  • powdered garlic
  • 1/4 cup honey mustard
  • 6 – 8 oz. ham (fully cooked) deli sliced or leftover diced works
  • 1 3/4 cup cheese – I used a mixture of Swiss, mozzarella, and cheddar (use your favorites or what you have on hand)

Directions:

  1. Prepare a rimmed baking sheet by covering with aluminum foil. Spray well with non-stick spray.
  2. Stretch pizza dough into a large rectangle.
  3. Sprinkle powdered garlic over the dough.
  4. Spread honey mustard over the dough evenly leaving a 1/2″ around edge. Lay ham over the dough and then top with cheese.
  5. Fold the dough into thirds and seal the ends by pinching closed. Sprinkle a bit of cheese over the top if desired. Place on baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 20-30 minutes until roll is cooked through.

Thank you! I had to look up the difference between Calzones and Strombolis. One has sauce in it the other has sauce on the side to dip. I liked this sauce in the dish.

It’s basically pizza folded together with stuff. Calzones have no sauce in them and Strombolis have some type of sauce in them.
