My daughter danced at the Pat Roche Feis (feis – rhymes with mesh and is an Irish Cultural Competition for Irish dance, music, culinary arts, and art) and the Windy City Feis in Rosemont, Illinois at the Stevenson Convention Center over the weekend. So, she finally got a first place in her treble jig (she won by four points!) and a first in her treble reel. A third in her reel dance and a second in traditional set rounded out the day. She was so excited. The best part, for me, was when she found out she got the first she started to cry. She looked at me and said, “I CAN do this.” I told her, “I know you can do this but you were beginning to doubt yourself weren’t you?” She nodded yes and we both agreed she can do this!
She has been battling back from years of injuries to both ankles, her back, and her hips. She has been to physical therapy, had cortisone shots in her joints, and taken more Ibuprofen than I care to think about. But, she hasn’t quit. She was beginning to think it was over and even her teacher didn’t believe in her anymore but after this weekend I can see the spark. She will get to where she wants to be. It may take her longer than everyone else but she will get there.
So, no recipes today (or yesterday). But, if your curious what kind of food we eat while we are on the road here are a few pictures from dinner in Chicago. It was a cute little joint diner. I am known in my family for taking lots of pictures of food and menus for inspiration. So, here’s what we had this weekend. Who knows you may be seeing one of these dishes as a soup or pizza soon!
BLT Turkey Club
Fully loaded French Onion Soup
Chocolate Cheesecake with Cake
Great job! Gotta be proud, Mom.

When I saw Chicago I instantly thought of our meeting too. I thought, I wish I was there right now. It was so lovely meeting you and Sylvester and I am happy we made it although it was only the three of us left… lol!
