Week 27: Next week is the first full week of school in person here in our little town. I am still second guessing our decision health wise but know it is the right thing for my son. It feels like a lose/lose situation. Both of my kids looked at me the other day and said, “You know by this time we thought we would be starting the school musical and back in college. I can’t believe we are still doing this.” I know there is a reason and a purpose that we are going through this and someday we will look back and understand all this but I do feel bad for the kids and college students. Their lives are unfolding far more different than they or we ever thought they would.
This is the first corporate tax season in 25 years that my wife isn’t working at the office from 8 am to 10-12 at night. She is in her office in the basement and it is actually kind of nice. I never thought she could work from home and it would work well for us. But, it really has, especially right now. She can come upstairs to eat dinner with the family or use her lunch to run to the store quickly to pick up something we need. It has been nice. Normally the kids and I would not see her for days as she may come home after we are asleep and gone in the morning before we are awake. I have asked her to see if she could continue maybe 2 days in the office and 3 days at home when they go back to the office.
I guess the pandemic is teaching us all new things. We can do things we never thought we could do – work from home, cook most of our meals at home, teach, and be compassionate with each other. How I hope we can carry these things forward as we go back to “normal.”
What's for Dinner Moms? 
Judging from the situation in Europe and the UK right now, Marci, its going to be a while longer before things return to normal in the world. My boys are half back at school and have to wear masks all day long.

My son is wearing one too. It just depends here. Some go without masks and create big pockets of illness (such as presidential gatherings) and others are trying to wear masks and abate the spread. It is going to be a long winter here.

We have to wear masks, it is the law. I am glad, it reduces the risk to everyone.

So true, this pandemic showed us so many options we had never thought of without. It would not have been possible to work that much from home probably. But since many have been forced to work from home, the business world simply adjusted!

Working from home is nice. I am still in that situation. I don’t miss the commute and all the preparation to get ready for work.

It saves so much time too! I love that during this busy time we still have contact. I have asked that this continue next year. We will see what they allow but I think heating and cooling a building is much more expensive than having everyone work from home.

I so agree with everything you said. I am also getting more sleep. And companies can no longer say it won’t work. Because we are proving it does work. 😊😊

I hope so too! The new normal is so hard, but it has taught us a lot of lessons, all good ones too at that!
