I am always trying to turn some of our favorite dishes into new recipes. My family loves Sloppy Joes. The other night I had thawed about 2 lbs. of ground beef and was trying to come up with a meal that I could make without having to run to the store for any ingredients. We had no hamburger rolls. I could make some with my bread maker but that would still take about 90 minutes and I didn’t think I or anyone else wanted to wait that long. I could make biscuits but that just didn’t thrill me. So, I decided to take my own advice and use one of the many boxes of pasta I bought in December for $.80.
Verdict:
This was super simple to make and my family loved it! It had the perfect vinegary taste of a Sloppy Joe and the comfort of pasta. Sigh. Both kids had 2 helpings and my dear daughter didn’t complain once about the onions!
I served this with carrot and a green side salad to complete the meal.
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 2 Bell peppers, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1 1/2 – 2 lbs. ground beef
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup mustard
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 tablespoons Chili Powder
- 2 teaspoons Paprika
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- salt and black pepper, to taste
- for serving (if desired): cheddar cheese, green onions,
Directions:
- Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain after cooking.
- As the pasta cooks in a large skillet over medium heat melt the butter. Add the onion to the pan and stir until it is translucent.
- Add the peppers and garlic to the pan and stir occasionally for 1 minute then add the ground beef and break it up with a spoon, stirring it all together.
- Allow to cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
- Add the brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire, chili powder, and paprika. Stir together and then add the ketchup and vinegar. Mix together the pasta and meat mix.
- Allow to cook for 5 minutes, until it thickens a bit, season to taste and serve.
- Serve with toppings as desired.
What a great idea!

That sounds good! I love pasta and this pasta sauce has ingredients I never used or a pasta sauce but it sounds good. I will try this out… also because my youngest son’s name is Joe… lol!

It has a bit of a sweet/tart taste. Sloppy Joes are a big American thing. Kind of like chili but with a tart flavor.
