Vegetable Pizza with Creamy Garlic Sauce

Vegetable Pizza with Creamy Garlic Sauce

I am approaching my son becoming a vegetarian the same way I approach everything. Lots and lots of research. I am learning what are the best ways to make sure he eats a balanced diet, getting all the nutrients he needs and doesn’t live on pasta and cheese. I am reading Pinterest recipes like a scholar studies large tomes.

I know that vegetarian doesn’t equal healthy necessarily but it is making all of us more aware about what we are eating. He chose to do this after several years of thinking about it. He was able to say that he believes animals have feelings and why do humans think they are better than other creatures as his reasoning for being vegetarian. He is still eating eggs, dairy and fish but even those are much less than usual. I can see my food bill changing but I am not sure it is going to be for the better. We will have to see about that.

We love pizza and pizza was one dish I knew I could make vegetarian and everyone would like it. To change things up I added a white garlic sauce rather than a red sauce.

Cheese Pizza with Creamy Garlic Sauce

Verdict:

This was YUMMY! If you like garlic you will LOVE this sauce. We are a garlic family. This had great flavor and once it is baked the flavor is strong but more mellow than in the raw form. We were all sampling the sauce right out of the bowl. The sauce would also be great, uncooked, as a dip with veggies, pretzel crisps or bagel crisps. I will be making this sauce again. Often.

I made one pizza with veggies for my son and partner and one pizza with just cheese for my daughter and I. We were all pleased with dinner and had enough leftovers for a lunch serving.

Serve with a nice garden salad as a side if desired.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons powdered garlic
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dill weed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic (I used jarred)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 14″ pizza crusts, homemade or store-bought
  • 8 oz. cheese (Mozzarella and Parmesan or your favorite pizza blend)
  • Your favorite toppings such as: onion, tomatoes, broccoli, red peppers, green peppers, olives, mushrooms, etc…

Directions:

  1. Mix mayonnaise, sour cream, powdered garlic, onion powder, dill weed, minced garlic and Parmesan cheese in a bowl. Once mixed well taste and add salt, pepper and any additional spices to your taste. This will be SUPER garlicy but when the sauce cooks it will mellow out some so you want it to have a tang to it.
  2. Cover and let the sauce sit in the refrigerator at least 20 minutes up to 3 hours.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  4. Spoons sauce over the center of the pizza crusts leaving a quarter-inch all around the edge.
  5. Top with your favorite cheeses and toppings.
  6. Bake 10 – 12 minutes until crust is crispy and cheese has melted and becoming brown at the edges.
  7. Allow pizza to rest for 5 minutes before cutting.

Ha, ha. If I can get myself through this is the goal. Hopefully my tastes will continue to develop as the kids tastes do too.

  3. Two wonderful recipes! I grew up vegetarian, took some time off in my twenties, and then went back. I think you’re in for a treat. đŸ™‚
