Planning a Trip to Disney World Without Children!

15th Anniversary Picture - Citrico's

Trying to get back to my Saturday Disney blogging. I miss it so much and after talking about Disney last night with someone planning a trip over Spring Break I decided I needed to revive my Disney Saturdays!

It has been slightly more than 16 years that I have planned an adults only trip to Walt Disney World. It is strange to be thinking of a trip that is all about what do “I” really want to do? I don’t have to think of what the kids will want to ride, what the kids want to eat or what will keep my son calm and happy.

We have decided to do a few things differently this trip. Having teenagers the amount of food they eat is always near the head of the list when we plan our trips. Buffets and family style meals are at the top of the list because we know that once a day they will get their fill of food and we won’t have to break the bank to feed them! Because there are four of us we usually buy the Disney Dining Plan that gives us one Counter-Service (CS) restaurant, one Table Service (TS) restaurant and one snack per day. It is just about right for us but because we like to do one “fancy” meal each trip – such as Citrico’s, Narcoose’s…, we end up buying one TS meal, usually a breakfast and a few extra snacks during our trip.

This time we have decided we want to eat at more of the Signature (2 credit) restaurants this trip so we are moving up to the Deluxe Dining plan, 3 (TS or CS) credits per day with 2 snacks. This is our 20th Anniversary and my (cough, cough,) birthday so we want to celebrate in style!

The above picture was from our 15th Anniversary trip to Walt Disney World with my then, 93 year-old mother-in-law (on her 1st trip to Disney!), my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. We had a great trip but I realized today that ALL of our pictures from Disney are either one of us with one or two children or just the children. We have almost no pictures of just the two of us at Disney. That is going to change because I plan on purchasing the Memory Maker for this trip and take advantage of all the ride, dinner and photo spots we can!

We have also decided to focus less on rides and more on the shows and attractions. Yes, after 20 trips to Walt Disney World there are still things that we have not seen or done.  I have never seen Birds of Wonder. I want to see the new River of Lights at Animal Kingdom that is opening April 22nd. I have a whole list of things I want to do and the best part is this trip is all about me (well, us)!  🙂

We are a 21 hour drive away. It is better than the 22 it used to be! So jealous being that close!

We missed 4 years because the years my kids were born and the year we moved 1/2 way across the country we didn’t go. We did go twice in some years too. It is our “thing.” Some people go to the ocean or mountains we are a Disney family!

They are going to camp while we are gone. It is their favorite place to be during the summer so they are very happy. They have been plenty of times before and we are giving them the choice of Disneyland next year or Disney World. Tough decisions!

My kids were 18 months old the first time each one of them went. They don’t remember anything but we sure do. It was more for us than for them.

  8. What’s the best way to go about planning a trip to Disney with kids 4 under age 10? Travel agent? the Disney website? L&L, Shona

I do a travel agent now because they can keep track of all the deals Disney opens up and apply them to your trip if they apply to your dates or hotel. Otherwise you have to watch it yourself, Disney will not do it for you. Please ask questions! I LOVE Disney and planning!

      1. OK! Is there a travel agency you recommend? I am trying to get basic ideas and prices at this point. So nice to be able to ask someone so enthusiastic about Disney! L&L, Shona

We always use Danaz@mmvagent.com (Dana Z. at Magical Moments Vacations). All Disney vacation agents should quote you about the same price because the prices come from Disney. If you find a big difference investigate why. You may not be being quoted everything you think you are. Dana is also great at staying on top of deals Disney rolls out. Tell her Marci and Ann recommended her!

How exciting! Wow you’ve gone 20 times?? Me and my boyfriend took my son in 2014. We enjoyed it very much! We stayed five days and still didn’t get to see everything. We aren’t that close to it so we had to fly in. I’ve been to Disneyland about 10 times but it’s much smaller than Disney World. We weren’t crazy about the food in DW but what can you do? We stayed in Port Orleans Resort. Have a great time! 😊

We drive 21 hours each way to get there. I love the food! Need or want suggestions next time just let me know. We have been to almost every restaurant on property at least once.

Wow that’s a long time to drive! I’m sure it’s probably less expensive than flying though. How many states do you go through? I really wanted to try some of the nicer restaurants but we mostly ate at the hotel or a quick bite somewhere. My son REALLY wanted to go to Pizza Planet so we went. It was alright. I’m not sure when we’ll go back but if we do, I’ll ask you. Thank you!

Six states and we have done it once or twice a year for the past 15 years so we are all used to it. You learn where to stop and even have our favorite restaurants along the way.
