My son celebrated not only his birthday this weekend but competing in the Michigan State Science Olympiad with his middle school science team. When I start to get down about the state of the world I remember looking around at his team mates and their families. A diverse group of people who are all there because they love and are passionate about science in some form. Whether they are a Road Scholar, build a rocket, or solve a crime Crime Busters, they are the people who give me hope for the future of our world. They understand the difference between facts and opinions. They are not all of the same political bent or mind but they see the value in what they and their children are learning in this competition. Yes, I sit and it brings tears to my eyes. If we can get through these times of uncertainty I have great hope for our future.
