If you have ever been camping you have probably had one of these or something similar for dinner. You can make them with chicken, pork chops, fish, etc… and the vegetables of your choice. I don’t know why I never thought of making them in the slow cooker before. These would be great on a cold winter night to recreate that ’round the campfire feeling. Especially if you have a fire-place start it up and have a picnic dinner!
Verdict:
These were so good! Both of the kids loved them and started planning what they would like in them the next time we make them. The best part is that clean up is minimal and you can take one packet out at a time if you are eating at different times on a busy night. So, great.
Tip: Use the leanest cuts of meat possible to avoid your packet being too greasy. Our ground beef was 85% and I would not go any lower than that in making these packets. Ground turkey, chicken breasts would all work really well.

Ground Beef Packet Dinners in the Slow Cooker
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. ground beef, lean
- 1 ish lb. red potatoes, chopped
- 1 small red onion, sliced
- salt, black pepper, and garlic powder
- Worcestershire Sauce, if desired
Directions:
- Cut 4 – 5 (the number of packets you want) pieces of aluminum foil to make your packets they should be at least 18″ in length.
- Make 4-5 hamburger patties (the same number as your foil packets). Place one patty in the center of each aluminum foil piece. Sprinkle well with salt and black pepper.
- Place chopped onions and chopped potatoes on top of the hamburger patty. Sprinkle well with garlic powder and black pepper. If desired drizzle with Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor.
- Fold sides of aluminum foil over the sides and then across the top so that the food is completely sealed in. Stack the hamburgers in the slow cooker.
- Cook on high 5-6 hours. Rotate packets (top to bottom) after 3 hours. Potatoes will be fork tender and the meat will be cooked through.
- Serve packets on a sturdy plate. Be careful of any steam or dripping juices when opening the packets.

I like to do these when camping. Parchment paper wrapped dinners are good too. Have you tried any of those? I’ve done both a chicken and fish one. Love how fast easy the clean up is, and they’re tasty!

I haven’t done them in parchment paper. I need to try that too.

Thanks for a quick and easy one. I’m doing all the shopping now, and some of meals, so this helps. I’ll bet the ground beef really absorbs the flavor of the other ingredients. I use Worcestershire sauce in my meatloaf, so I would add it here.

Thank you. I hope to inspire people to try to cook at home more no matter how busy they are. It takes some planning but I rely on my slow cooker, casseroles and one pan meals to try and keep from hitting the drive thru or ordering out.

Why didn’t I think of that! Easy cleanup is a big bonus around here.
