I chose the word determination to be my guiding word for 2018 almost a year ago. It seems hard to believe that a year has flown by. Everyone says life goes by faster and faster each year that goes by and I am starting to believe it.
My daughter has started college and my son is setting, finally, into the 10th grade. It has been an adjustment all around. The word determination has served me well this year as I went through physical therapy, starting a new job, and changes all around. I looked to this word often when I seemed to be struggling over something and it really did help guide me through especially when I felt stuck or didn’t want to do something I know I needed to do. Just looking to the word made me get up and do something when I always didn’t want to.
So, as I think forward to 2019 and my new word I have several in mind.
Maybe change.
Maybe courage.
Maybe gentleness.
What was your word for 2018 and are you picking one for 2019?
My word is tenderness. We get them every year on Epiphany in church — stars with special words and everyone chooses one.

All the three words are powerful and supportive. I haven’t chosen a word for this or next year. But I think the theme of this year must have been: Finding my path!

Thank you, Marci! A challenging year but at the same time a source of growth and self-development.
