Food Trends for 2020


Every year I review lots of research that tries to predict what will be the food trends for 2020. Last year’s predictions can be seen here (click for link to blog post). How did I do?

This year trends seem to be a continuation of many of last years trends. Here is what I saw most often in my reading:

Vegetables will continue to be king. Less meat more veggies.  Sweet potatoes are seen as possibly taking over cauliflower as the vegetable of the year.

Keto foods and diets will continue to be popular. Low carb is seen as a continuing trend for the next few years.

Nut butters and new vegetable “butters” will see a rise in popularity.

Vegetable proteins will continue to be popular with a rise in fishless “fish”.

Mocktails will be the cocktails of 2020.

Convenience will continue to be the go-to for meals. Meal services and convenience foods in grocery stores will continue to expand.

Pancakes to become a trendy food. They will be flavored, stuffed, and super fluffy!

Which trend are you looking most forward to in 2020?

      I have several friends that love it and have lost over 100 lbs. I look at it but not there yet.

    I think people are still on the more sustainable track, fair trade, local goods,… I already hopped on that train this year and plan on increasing the ride. Most of all regarding conscious nutrition. I want to know what I eat and where it comes from. No chemistry and again less meat than I already ate this year.

      Yes! Super important especially in the US as they are deregulating everything including pesticides.

  4. I have been eating lower carb, but mostly to give me “room” for the indulgences I love! Not quite keto. I love reading your trends every year.
