After listening to “What’s for dinner Mom?” every day, for the past 11 years, no matter what the answer I gave them, the reply was always the same, “Again?”
I am not overly creative lately in my choices for dinner so I am going on a quest to see how many different dishes I can make before repeating one. I am starting tonight, Chinese New Year, with Moo Goo Gai Pan.
My rules for the Game:
1. I have to post a picture the next day of my families dinner no matter what it is. I have amended this to weeknights so that we can now repeat some of our favorite dishes on weekends.
2. Dishes can be similar but cannot be identical. i.e. Chicken Tacos and Shrimp Tacos are not repeating as they have different meats.
3. I will give the recipes I used and reviews where possible. Some of my dishes are old family recipes where some of this and some of that just don’t translate into a recipe.
Off I go!

For those new to my site. Here is where it all started. My blog has changed greatly over the last 4 years. It is more about family, life with Autism, travels and my musings about raising my children. But, through it all is the food. Life always comes back to food – smells, textures, flavors. Memories.
The rules of our game have become less rigid over time – I now only try to play the game Monday to Friday and allow for repeat dinners on the weekends, holidays and special days like birthdays. This year I have even decided to go back and repeat some of the first dishes and update recipes and pictures because my kids were saying how they don’t remember certain dishes even when I show them the pictures.
I am a mom, just like many of you, that struggles some days to get dinner to the table and not get into a rut. We are all in this together!

What a great idea to make favorites on the weekends! My husband complains that I don’t repeat things and so he doesn’t get to have dishes he loves more than once! I’m going to use your rules, too and let people know where I found them!

Thank you! My kids were upset when they figured out they couldn’t repeat their favorites for holidays and their birthdays. So, I had to relax a bit. German dinner for my daughter every birthday. 🙂

I’m going to try your One Pot Lemon chicken but I have to downsize it. It’s just me and Mr. Comfortable at home now. And, knowing me, I’ll end up playing with it a little. lol

That’s been my philosophy for recipes I post. Make them your own! I’m pretty strict about following baking recipes I find but savory dishes are a free-for-all! lol

I love the idea of making it a game and posting the pictures! I love menu planning and implementing new recipes but do tend to repeat most of them. I’ll be following for sure!
