Awhile back I was nominated by the lovely Lisa from Lisa’s “I Have too Much Time on My Hands” Site to the quote challenge. (click for link to original blog post). Her blog is a little bit of everything and is always interesting. š
I promised I would complete this on Thanksgiving because I thought this would be the perfect time for me.
So, my favorite quotes:
“It is not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, that is the true measure of our Thanksgiving.”Ā – W. T. Purkiser
Often around the holidays we hear of how blessed everyone is and how grateful they are for family, homes, and what they have. I want to take it one more step and how do we help others with our blessings?
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss)
I have loved this quote forever. I don’t believe that it is saying say whatever you want to hurt others but speak your truth with love. Don’t be shut down for fear of what others will think of you. Stand up and speak when you need to.
And finally…
“Claire had all but given up
When she and Edwin fell in love
She touched his face and shook her head
In disbelief she sighed and said
In many dreams I’ve held you near
Now at last you’re really hereChorus
Where have you been?
I’ve looked for you for ever and a day
Where have you been?
I’m just not myself when you’re awayHe asked her for her hand for life
Then she became a salesman’s wife
He was home each night by 8
But one stormy evening he was late
Her frightened tears fell to the floor
Until his key turned in the doorChorus
They’d never spent a night apart
For 60 yrs she heard him snore
Now they’re in a hospital
In seperate beds on different floorsClaire soon lost her memory, forgot the names of family
She never spoke a word again
Then one day they wheeled him in
He held her hand and stroked her hair
In a fragile voice she saidChorus
Where have you been
I’ve looked for you forever and a day
Where have you been
I’m just not myself when your away
I’m just not myself when your away”
Yes, this is a song. This is one of my favorite songs that makes me cry each time I hear it. The love story is just beautifully heartbreaking. You can listen to it here:
“Where have you been? I have looked for you forever and a day…”
I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Spread the blessingsĀ you have, speak your truth and look to those who love you and know you are loved.
