Sloppy Joe Sliders

Simple meals that don’t take a lot of time and are generally things I keep on hand are what I strive to make each day. I don’t know about your family but mine love the Hawaiian sliders. You can either use the Hawaiian dinner rolls which are a bit larger or the little slider rolls which are about 4 nice bites. My family of course likes the larger rolls but you do what you like.

Verdict:

This is great if you have a group of teens who want a hearty snack or double it for a heavy meal. We made one package of rolls for the four of us and had a good meal with a side of green vegetables and a side salad. We like to eat so this was good for us.

Adjust the spices to your liking – add more mustard, chili powder, or Worcestershire sauce to your tastes.

  • 1 12-count package Hawaiian rolls
  • cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2- 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup water
For the Glaze
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Without separating the rolls, cut horizontally and place the bottoms in a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the bottom rolls..
  3. In a medium skillet heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Cook ground beef  and onions breaking the beef into small pieces as it cooks until the beef is cooked through and the onion has softened. Drain off excess fat.
  4. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  5. While the beef is cooking, stir together ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, and salt and pepper . Stir the mixture into the beef, garlic, and onion mix.  Cook until thickened  4 – 5 minutes. Taste and adjust the spices as desired.
  6. Spoon the meat mixture over the bottom halves of the rolls. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese over the meat.
  7. Melt butter in a small bowl in the microwave. Stir in brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Pour over the sliders, making sure each sliders gets coated.Bake for about 20 minutes or until the sliders are golden brown.
