Check In: Day 294

Week 42: I am tired. I am writing this on the evening on January 1st and I am tired. We all stayed up late on New Year’s Eve and slept in a bit on New Year’s Day. We are starting to take down the Christmas decorations and starting to organize, well I guess it would be re-organize, all the rooms. It is hard for my kids to understand that organization is not a one and done. It is something that must be maintained and then re-evaluated from time to time. We need to make some changes to some of our systems as they are outdated or not working for us anymore. My office, the linen closet, and my daughter’s room are our hot spots right now that need some work.

Do you all set blogging goals for yourself each year? As part of my organizing I am thinking about blogging goals. Since the start of Covid in March I have posted every day except once or twice a month. I am thinking about trying to keep it going for 2021. It would fit with my word fortitude. Do you set stat goals or posting goals? Just looking for ideas what other do.

And, thank you to you all for following along in 2020. It has been a strange, strange trip but I am excited to see what 2021 has in store for us! Happy New Year!

We are about to take down the Christmas lights and tomorrow the rest of the decoration. I never like that day when we do this. We also have goals regarding the house for next year: A new air heat pump will replace the gas heating system. Maybe we even realize the photovoltaic system already this year, maybe next year. We will be completely independently generating our own electricity which also runs the heating system. Last year the big project was the garden and the year before we painted four rooms, and also got new floors.
Regarding social media, I just filled my calendar with dates for marketing posts for my practice, my products, and the events I am organizing. That’s one of my goals next year: to use social media wisely for marketing. My blogging habits will not change so far but that is always part of the development over the year…. lol.

It is the saddest day of the year (next to Labor Day and the first day of summer) for me. We have talked for years about wanting to be off the grid for electricity but it is so difficult where we live with restrictions and the electric companies wanting to be paid no matter what you do. Anyways….

Our home projects will hopefully be a bathroom refresh, paint, and fix a piece of wall board.

Glad you will keep blogging! Marketing on SM is tough. I still haven’t really gotten the hang of it for my business. Maybe that will be a new goal for the coming year.

Seems we feel the same about it. But once I am done I am glad it is behind me. Oh well, sounds like a Mafia. I hope that their power/monopoly will be broken soon. We need more alternative energies to be used on this planet.
The projects sound exciting when even taxing. But how wonderful it will be once you made it.
It is my big goal for this year to push my business. I put it behind for too long and now I am most motivated😎
But one step at a time… That’s what I had to learn last year too… Lol

  2. Frankly, I’m always interested in how folks like you and Erika find content for your blogs. As for me, I am continuing to edit one of my works in progress as well as working on the other two.

Last year I had my driveway redone and my gutters and downspouts replaced so as it relates to home improvement measures, I’m a pro at that. I need my bathrooms redone and would like to have at least one of them done this year. Having funds for them are another story, lol.

I am always looking for new things. I carry a pen and notecards with me everywhere (which I then transfer into my planner). I read menus, scan cookbooks, and am always scouring for things I can change into something new. A pizza into a soup, an appetizer into a sandwich, or a soup into a casserole.

I need to put in a kitchen backsplash but that will wait for awhile. We are thinking bathroom update and a new freezer for this year. My freezer is 21 years old in May! Right now they are almost impossible to get and my spouse works for Whirlpool.

      1. I know! I thought about getting a freezer around the beginning of the pandemic and there was a shortage.

Redid the kitchen in 2016 which is why I still don’t have any money, lol! That was the mother of projects because parts of it had been redone over the past 55 years so there was probably three parts of

We bought our house 8 years ago but the house was going into foreclosure and the contractor who bought it to flip it only got about 2/3 done before he gave up. So we finished some things and have slowly been doing others. It never ends.

          1. That’s for sure! I’ve been in my house for 17 years and I’ve probably replaced something every year.

      2. I meant to say that there were probably three different decades in my previous kitchen at the same time, smh.

  3. I’m not going to do a specific theme for my blog post this year. I’m going to post once a week with the occasional added post, and post whatever I happen to photograph during the week or dig through my files and post something. I feel out of sorts with photo editing. Really I don’t want to do it. I love being in the field shooting, but not editing and this last year was the worst!

We have no house projects slated as the house is only 6 and doesn’t need anything updated yet. If the new tree in the front yard doesn’t survive its first winter we’ll have to replace it. We’re hoping it survived!
I am hoping to replace our sofa sleeper this year, but it’s just a want, not a need so if it doesn’t happen it’s okay.

Best of luck to you with your goals for the year. I hope it’s a good year for us all! Happy New Year to you and yours.

Thanks! I am not a good editor of my photos. I am taking them as we are sitting down to eat. Sometimes I am rushed (and hungry) and the lightening is horrible but it is my reality.

We are hoping for a new freezer this year. They are hard to find and mine is 21 years old in May. We are also thinking a bathroom refresh (not redo) paint, fix a spot on the wall. etc….

Hope you find the sofa you want! Sometimes those things help everything feel better.

      Happy New Year!

  5. Living day-to-day in a quasi “bubble” has left me zapped of energy for new ideas. All I can say is I look forward to hearing from my friends, like you, in the blogosphere. It has kept me from feeling totally isolated as we cope with the ever-changing mandates and guidelines of Covid. 🍃🌸

I hit the wall this weekend. I have been okay staying away from everyone. I don’t like it but could deal. Then a friend’s dad died of Covid. I too am tired of all this. I want to see my friends and family. But, for now will keep moving forward one step at a time. ❤

      1. That’s all we can do. Muster up the strength within and celebrate the wonderful awesome person they were. I, too, have lost dear, precious friends and family. I think of how they impacted my life and give thanks daily. Be strong. 💕
