This weekend is the “official” start of tourist season in our area. The signs of summer are everywhere here. The PGA Senior Golf Tournament is in town and people are swimming in the lake already. I smelled a barbecue starting earlier this morning and see signs of graduation parties all around town. The “Bugs at the Beach” (statues of bugs colorfully painted) have made an appearance downtown and the tandem bikes are being ridden up and down the beach.
What I love about our little town is that they decorate for each holiday. Along the bluff there are flags as far as you can see. There are also memorials for each war here. It is beautiful to walk along at sunset and read each memorial as the wind gently blows the flags around you. It makes you pause and think of each name on the memorial that may have once stood right where you are now. Then as the sun sets “Taps” begins to be heard along the bluff. It is heart wrenching to stand there among the flags, memorials and hear “Taps” as the sun sets.
May you find time this weekend to pause and reflect on the lives of those lost in our armed services throughout our history.
A wonderful post, and the small town living sounds wonderful as well. Safe and happy weekend to you and your family. 🙂

It is very quaint. Coming from a big city to here has been a tough adjustment but we love the small town feel.

So like our Quaint Barrier Island Beach Town the locals really show their care in the placement of the Flags, parade and Honoring those who served and continue to. Happy Memorial Day from our Beach Town to your small town! Cheryl

Love small towns. Where we live the entrances of our neighborhood are lined with flags. It is so welcoming. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, it is. Small enough to feel homey and large enough to have great things to do all year round.
