6 Desserts for Picnics

Hershey’s Cocoa Chocolate Layer Cake (click for link to recipe)

My favorite cake in the world is a Wegman’s Chocolate Cake. Wegman’s is an north east coast grocery chain. They have a chocolate cake that I have buckled in seat belt for a 10 hour drive half way across the country and had flown on a plane to me with family. I love this cake so much. This is the closest I have gotten to that cake. The chocolate flavor of the Hershey’s Cocoa is what makes it.

Banana Pudding Chessman Dessert (click for link to recipe)

Quite a few times I have read of the Banana Pudding with Nilla Wafers in it. I love Chessman cookies. They are a Pepperidge Farm butter cookie with the shapes of chess pieces stamped on them. They are amazing! If you cannot find those near you a really delicious butter cookie would work just as well for a different flavor.

Biscoff Ice Cream Sandwiches (click for link to recipe)

These little cookies are almost graham cracker in flavoring. They are super delicate so use a little melon baller to scoop your ice cream onto these yummy little cookies. A drizzle of chocolate syrup and caramel sauce make them seem extra decadent.

Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Cookies (click for link to recipe)

These were a staple in our home and most homes of my friends in the 70s and 80s. A simple cookie fully of peanut butter flavor was always a favorite. Use chunky peanut butter to add even more texture to the cookies!

Lemon Cake with Lemon Cream Frosting (click for link to recipe)

A fresh lemony cake is always a hit after a meal. This one is a nice refreshing taste and not overly complicated recipe.

School Lunch Brownies (click for link to recipe)

If you went to a public school in the late 70s or early 80s that served you lunch you may remember the big pans of frosted brownies. Brownie day was always the best day to buy lunch. These brownies are reminiscent of those chocolate frosted brownies.

What’s your favorite picnic dessert?

I loved shopping at Wegman’s when we lived in Williamsville (in the suburbs of Buffalo). We had both a big Tops and big Wegman’s right around the corner.

It will all happen again, Marci! How are you doing? Are you ok? I haven’t visited daily lately. What about the Covid infection?

We are waiting for my daughter’s test to come back. She took it on Friday. It is taking forever to get tests back here. Also, another restaurant closed for cleaning due to a positive worker. Sigh. Our little city is getting hit with this.

I hope you get the notification soon. It feels like forever anyway when waiting for something like that. Fingers strongly crossed!

  4. That chocolate cake is talking to me! I’ve never had the opportunity to go to a Wegman’s but I know if I see one I will be trying their chocolate cake! I think my favorite chocolate cake was from a bakery chain in SoCal called Susie Cakes…their old fashioned chocolate cake was all the drool emojis!
